Youssoufa Moukoko to start pre-season with Borussia Dortmund amid uncertain future
Youssoufa Moukoko will look to make an impact during pre-season, but his Borussia Dortmund future remains uncertain.
The future of Youssoufa Moukoko has been a hot topic over the last few months, with the Borussia Dortmund and Germany U-21s international being linked with a potential move away from the club. His recent reluctance to speak about his future led some to believe that he would seek pastures new. However, there is hope at the club that he will stay especially with the re-appointment of Edin Terzić as head coach.
Moukoko and Terzić are said to share an understanding and a strong bond, and Moukoko enjoyed increased playing time when the 39 year old was interim head coach. According to Ruhr Nachrichten, there is still no breakthrough in the contract talks and Moukoko’s entourage is still hesitant over signing an extension.
So the topic of Moukoko’s contract is still up in the air. The club will hope to find a swift solution regarding said contract, with his current deal set to run out in 2023. The 17 year old will seemingly take the first few weeks of preseason to decide on his future prior to the start of the new season.
Borussia Dortmund are said to be pushing for a timely decision because they may well be forced to sell him this summer if an agreement cannot be reached.
Moukoko is one of the most exciting prospects to graduate from Dortmund’s academy, but his first full season in the first-team was marred by injury and somewhat underwhelming performances. Despite this, BVB know that they have a talented player on their hands and will do their best to make sure he remains with the club for many seasons to come.
