Gio Reyna is making good progress on his road to recovery, but he will be forced to miss the start of pre-season training with Borussia Dortmund.
The Borussia Dortmund players are set to kick-start their preparations for the start of the 2022/23 season this week. But Gio Reyna will not be returning to training just yet. According to Ruhr Nachrichten, the USMNT international still hasn’t fully recovered from the injury he suffered in April that saw him miss the final few weeks of the season.
The newspaper adds that while Reyna is not fully fit just yet, he has been working hard in rehab and is well on track on his road to recovery. The hope is that he will be able to increase his workload in the coming weeks and be ready in time for the start of the season.
Borussia Dortmund will not want to rush the attacking midfielder back into action following his struggles with injuries last season.
Reyna was limited to just 12 appearances in the recently concluded campaign. The 19 year old first was forced to miss the majority of the first half of the season after suffering a hamstring injury while on international duty in September. He then suffered further setbacks in February and April, and had to spend several weeks on the sidelines.
The coming season is set to be a crucial one for Gio Reyna, especially with the FIFA World Cup coming up in November. He will be aiming to return to training in the coming weeks, hoping that his injury woes are finally behind him.
