Aston Villa’s highly rated midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka is currently not a transfer target for Borussia Dortmund, per Ruhr Nachrichten.

Borussia Dortmund have been very active in the transfer market over the last few months, looking to shore up positions that needed fresh faces and improvement. They have been fairly successful so far in this respect, both replacing departing players and adding depth in key areas of the park in order to form a more complete and coherent squad for the coming season.

Central midfield was one of Die Schwarzgelben’s areas of interest coming into the summer transfer period and the club managed to sign Salih Özcan from FC Köln before the transfer window even opened. In recent weeks however, BVB have been linked with another talented midfielder, Aston Villa’s Carney Chukwuemeka.

Aged just 18, Chukwuemeka would very much be your typical Borussia Dortmund transfer target; young, talented and having a high ceiling in terms of potential. The player’s contract with Villa is set to expire in 2023 barring any potential future extension.

According to Ruhr Nachrichten however, Dortmund are currently not looking to sign the young star, primarily because their midfield is currently stacked with enough talent and depth. That, along with Dortmund having already spent sizeable transfer sums on the likes of Karim Adeyemi, Niklas Süle and Sébastien Haller, make any new signings without departures unlikely.

Borussia Dortmund current focus, should they recoup funds via sales, will likely be to secure the services of David Raum. The defense still remains Dortmund’s priority in terms of new acquisitions, and the Germany international is seemingly at the top of their list once both funds and squad space becomes available.
