Sebastian Kehl: Edin Terzic will bring high quality to Borussia Dortmund

Sebastian Kehl is backing Edin Terzic to succeed at Borussia Dortmund following his appointment as permanent head coach.
Borussia Dortmund appointed Edin Terzic as their new permanent head coach in May, with the 39 year old replacing Marco Rose following an underwhelming season. The expectations are high following the Black and Yellows’ big splash in the transfer market. But Sebastian Kehl is confident that the boyhood BVB supporter has what it takes to succeed as the team’s new head coach.
In an interview with Kicker, the Borussia Dortmund sporting director said:
"“Edin brings with him high quality, both on a professional and a personal level. He identifies strongly with the city, the region and the people, has good communication skills and manages to inspire the boys.”“He has a high degree of emotionality, will and willingness to work hard. And he has already gained a lot of experience in various roles despite his age, here at the club, and also in other countries.”"
Terzic spoke last week about wanting to make the fans happy and getting his players ready for whatever they may face in matches over the course of the coming season. The 2022/23 season will be one like no other, with the FIFA World Cup set to be held in November. That, and several other challenges await Terzic this season. And it will be interesting to see how he deals with them.
Kehl believes that being permanent head coach will be a new challenge for Terzic. But he will have the full support of the BVB bosses in the coming months.
"“He will be challenged in a new role now: For the first time, he is head coach from the first day of pre-season and has the reins in his hands. We will give him as much support as possible.”"
Terzic previously spent six months as interim Borussia Dortmund head coach following Lucien Favre’s sacking in December 2020. He led Dortmund to a top four finish and also guided the team to the DFB-Pokal title. And everyone at the club will be hoping that he can make a similar impact this time around.
Edin Terzic will take charge of his first competitive game since returning as Borussia Dortmund head coach on July 29 against 1860 Munich in the first round of the DFB-Pokal.
