Lothar Matthäus believes that Sebastian Kehl has done an excellent job in his first summer as the Borussia Dortmund sporting director.

Michael Zorc stepped down as Borussia Dortmund’s sporting director at the end of last season after more than two decades in the role, leaving Sebastian Kehl with the monumental task of succeeding him. The new BVB sporting director has taken a very proactive approach, making sweeping changes to the squad and staff.

Bayern Munich legend Lothar Matthäus has now heaped praise on Sebastian Kehl for the job he has done since taking over as Borussia Dortmund sporting director. In his column for Sky Sport, Matthäus gave Kehl an A grade for the work he has done so far:

"“Sebastian Kehl’s work in the transfer window is a straight “A”. What he has put together is outstanding. On the field, on the bench and also off the field.”“A new athletic trainer, a great and experienced assistant coach, a head coach who loves the club and is probably more eager for its success than anyone before him, and a whole lot of really good football to boot. I’m really looking forward to the new BVB.”"

Borussia Dortmund have made several big signings this summer, bringing in the likes of Niklas Süle, Nico Schlotterbeck, Karim Adeyemi, and Salih Özcan. They are also set to complete the signing of Sebastien Haller, with only the official announcement pending. The BVB bosses have also appointed Edin Terzic as the new head coach, and have made a number of changes to the backroom staff.

Matthäus has been left very impressed by Borussia Dortmund’s transfer business. And he believes that if they manage to sign David Raum from TSG Hoffenheim, they could be in for a very successful season.

"“Niklas Süle wants to become Bundesliga champion in his first year at Borussia Dortmund. I think Dortmund have done a wonderful job of bolstering their squad with him, not only in sporting terms but also in terms of attitude.”“Now, if David Raum also dons the black and yellow jersey in the new season, giving Edin Terzic’s team virtually the national team’s back four, we could really see the best BVB in recent years.”"

Borussia Dortmund are interested in signing Raum, but they will first need to sell Raphael Guerreiro and Nico Schulz in order to be able to afford the German international’s signature.
