Borussia Dortmund made it two wins out of two in pre-season, as goals from Mats Hummels and Antonios Papadopoulos helped them beat Dynamo Dresden 2-0.
Borussia Dortmund saw off the challenge of third division side Dynamo Dresden on Saturday afternoon in what was a hard fought pre-season friendly. New signing Prince Aning was the standout performer once again for the Black and Yellows, as he set up both goals in the 2-0 win.
Mahmoud Dahoud returned to the starting XI for Edin Terzic’s side, who were captained by Mats Hummels. Youssoufa Moukoko started up front, with Prince Aning and Marius Wolf playing out wide.
The game got off to a lively start, with Dynamo Dresden causing Borussia Dortmund a few problems with their intense pressing high up the pitch. But it was BVB who opened the scoring, with Mats Hummels heading home the opening goal in the 13th minute.
Michael Eberwein headed Aning’s well delivered corner into Hummels’ path, and the veteran centre-back made it 1-0 with a looping header.
Both teams had a fair few chances after Hummels’ opener, and Borussia Dortmund goalkeeper Alexander Meyer was forced into making a couple of important saves in the first half.
BVB finally managed to double their lead in the 41st minute through Antonios Papadopoulos. The centre-back found the back of the net after more good play from Aning.
Bradley Fink and Lion Semic came close to adding to Borussia Dortmund’s lead in the second half. But there were to be no more goals, and BVB claimed a 2-0 win in their second pre-season friendly of the summer.
Next up for Borussia Dortmund is a trip to SC Verl on Thursday, and the majority of the first-team squad is expected to be available for that game.
