According to BILD, Borussia Dortmund and FC Schalke 04 are both interested in signing Lech Poznań’s Antoni Kozubal.

Borussia Dortmund are reportedly set to do battle with their perennial rivals Schalke over the signing of young Polish midfielder Antoni Kozubal. The 17 year old generally features as a defensive midfielder for his side. The player is a product of Lech Poznań’s academy, and has indeed made his debut for the first team.

So far, Kozubal has played in two Polish Ekstraklasa games and three games in the Polish Cup. The latter competition saw him score his first professional goal as well. It would seem that these performances have attracted the interest of the two German clubs.

Kozubal’s player profile seems to suggest that if Dortmund were to make a move for the young Polish midfielder, he would be earmarked to play in one of the youth teams, perhaps the under-23s.

As of right now, there is no space for the player in his preferred defensive midfield position, especially considering the fact that BVB have just signed Salih Özcan, whose primary competition for minutes are Jude Bellingham and Emre Can.

Borussia Dortmund also have talented youngster Abdoulaye Kamara waiting in the wings for his opportunity in the first team. The midfielder has impressed for the U-19s and U-23s in recent months.

According to the information available, Kozubal’s contract with Lech Poznań is set to run until 2024, making selling the player not an urgent matter for the Polish Ekstraklasa side. While it would of course be nice for BVB to sign yet another young talent, unless the fee for the player isn’t significant, there are still other areas on the pitch that the club need to focus on in the coming weeks.
