Sebastian Kehl has heaped praise on Marco Reus and Mats Hummels, saying that the duo have played an important role in shaping the club in recent years.

Marco Reus and Mats Hummels are both entering the final year of their Borussia Dortmund contracts, and it remains to be seen what the future holds for them beyond the end of the season. Sporting director Sebastian Kehl has praised the veteran duo, adding that the BVB bosses are fairly relaxed about the situation surrounding their futures.

"In an interview with Sky Sport, Kehl said: “We are relatively relaxed about this. We have a very, very high level of trust. Marco and Mats in particular are very, very important for this club. They have helped shape this club in recent years.”“We’re taking a very relaxed approach, we have an incredibly high regard for these two players. I believe that they themselves can also be very relaxed about this situation. Because in the end, we all want to be successful. For that we need good performances, for that we need Mats and Marco.”"

Reus and Hummels will both have an important role to play if Borussia Dortmund are to challenge Bayern Munich for the Bundesliga title this season. And the club’s captain and vice-captain will also be keen to show that they still have plenty left to offer to the team.

Reus has already stated that he would like to stay at Borussia Dortmund until the end of his playing career.

Meanwhile, Hummels said recently that he is looking forward to the competition for places in defence following the arrivals of Nico Schlotterbeck and Niklas Süle. The defender added that he is relaxed about his future, and wants to make sure that he can still help the team before making a decision.
