Sebastien Haller will be sidelined for at least a few months after undergoing surgery last week, Borussia Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl has revealed.

Sebastien Haller was forced to leave Borussia Dortmund’s training camp last week after a testicular tumour was discovered during medical examinations. The 28 year old successfully underwent surgery last week. And Sebastian Kehl has now revealed that Haller will be sidelined for at least a few months.

During the press conference ahead of Borussia Dortmund’s DFB-Pokal first round tie against 1860 Munich, Kehl said:

"“Sebastien was successfully operated on last week. The results are currently still pending. The course of therapy is now being discussed. However, we will definitely be without him for a few months. As soon as things become more concrete, we will communicate them.”"

Kehl added during the press conference that an exact diagnosis is not yet available. So it still remains to be seen exactly how long Haller will be unavailable for.

Depending on the exact timeframe for Sebastian Haller’s return, Borussia Dortmund may look to sign another striker this summer. The Black and Yellows have been linked with a number of strikers in recent days, including Luis Suarez, Edinson Cavani, Edin Dzeko, Marcus Thuram, and Mauro Icardi.

Sebastian Kehl kept his cards close to his chest during the press conference, but stated that they will only sign another striker in the coming weeks if it makes sense. He added that they are happy with the squad they have at the moment, citing the various options head coach Edin Terzic has at his disposal.

"“We are preparing for different scenarios. We are working on various options and ideas. At the moment, nothing is concrete. I think our squad offers us a lot of possibilities. Edin has a number of options at his disposal. However, we do now lack a player like Haller in terms of his physical presence. But we will only do something if it makes sense.”"
