Defenders: Thomas Meunier, Niklas Süle, Nico Schlotterbeck, Raphael Guerreiro

Borussia Dortmund have completely revamped their defence with the arrivals of Niklas Süle and Nico Schlotterbeck. The two German internationals will hope to provide more stability and consistency to the BVB defence, which looked sloppy and shambolic at times last season.

Mats Hummels starts the season as Borussia Dortmund’s third-choice centre-back. But with games set to come thick and fast this season, he will no doubt get his fair share of opportunities in the starting XI. While Manuel Akanji could yet be a part of the team this season if he isn’t sold by the end of the transfer window.

The competition for places in central defence is very high, and that can only be a good thing for the team.

Thomas Meunier and Raphael Guerreiro will be Borussia Dortmund’s starting full-backs this season. But their performances will certainly be under the spotlight in the coming months, as Meunier hasn’t been able to convince on a consistent basis since his move from PSG and Guerreiro is coming off an underwhelming season.
