Report: Edinson Cavani on Borussia Dortmund’s shortlist of striker targets

Edinson Cavani could reportedly be an option for Borussia Dortmund, and talks have already taken place between the two parties.

Borussia Dortmund are looking to sign a new striker as a short-term replacement for Sebastien Haller, who will be sidelined for several months after being diagnosed with a malignant testicular tumour. WAZ reported earlier this week that the BVB bosses want to bring in a new striker within the next two weeks. And BILD are now claiming that Edinson Cavani is one of the names on their list of targets.

According to the tabloid, there has already been contact between the club and the player. And further talks are set to take place soon. It still remains to be seen if Cavani will end up joining Borussia Dortmund. Although the 35 year old could be an enticing option for the Black and Yellows.

Edinson Cavani is a proven goalscorer at the top level, and is currently a free agent after leaving Manchester United at the end of last season. The Uruguayan international scored 19 goals in 59 appearances for the English Premier League side. Villarreal and Monza are among the other clubs interested in signing him on a free transfer.

Borussia Dortmund have been linked with a number of strikers in recent days, including Anthony Modeste, Marcus Thuram, and Krzysztof Piątek. But BILD add that a decision on which striker to sign has not yet been made. BVB only have limited funds available, and only want to sign someone on a one year contract.
