Hans-Joachim Watzke believes that Bayern Munich are the heavy favourites to win the Bundesliga title this season.

The 2022/23 Bundesliga season is set to get underway this weekend and there is real hope that we could see a closely contested title race with three teams in contention. Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, and RB Leipzig have all bolstered their squads really well this summer.

But Hans-Joachim Watzke sees the defending champions as the clear favourites to win the MeisterschaleIn an interview with Sportschau, Watzke said:

"“They (Bayern) have an exceptionally good team and have invested an incredible amount of money, so they are the top favourites. Nevertheless, we will give everything we’ve got. But you always have to be realistic.”“Everyone, of course, except Bayern fans, wants Bayern to not be German champion. I’ve said that it will happen at some point in the next few years. I just can’t guarantee that it will happen next year, especially since they have invested so much and so well.”"

Despite losing Robert Lewandowski to FC Barcelona, Bayern Munich look to be in good stead going into the new season. The defending champions have brought in the likes of Sadio Mane, Matthijs de Ligt, Noussair Mazraoui, Ryan Gravenberch, and Mathys Tel. The Bavarians showed their attacking prowess last weekend by claiming a 5-3 win over RB Leipzig in the DFL-Supercup final.

Borussia Dortmund have also made a big splash in the transfer market, with Niklas Süle, Karim Adeyemi, Nico Schlotterbeck, and Sebastien Haller among their big summer signings. The BVB CEO believes that the atmosphere around the club is really positive right now, and they have a lot of confidence in new head coach Edin Terzic.

The Black and Yellows last won the Bundesliga title in 2012, and they will be desperate to give Bayern Munich a real fight in the title race this season.
