Borussia Dortmund may look to bring Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi on loan
Borussia Dortmund are reportedly holding talks with Callum Hudson-Odoi’s agents ahead of a potential loan move from Chelsea, per Sky Sports.
In what seems to be yet another twist in Borussia Dortmund’s summer transfer window, they are said to be in talks with the entourage of Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi to bring the player on loan to the Bundesliga. Hudson-Odoi has seemingly told Chelsea that he wants to leave, with Die Schwarzgelben one of the serious candidates to be his next club.
This is not the first time Hudson-Odoi has been linked with the Ruhr club, with the player having been considered as a replacement for Jadon Sancho last summer. The move did not materialize then, but could possibly be a good fit for the player this season as his playing time has not been substantial under Thomas Tuchel.
Hudson-Odoi only registered 15 appearances last season, which for a player his age is certainly not something to be satisfied with.
Borussia Dortmund, if indeed competing for his signature, seem set to face competition from clubs including Leicester City, Newcastle United, and Southampton. There is also said to be interest from Juventus that the player is said to be considering.
For Hudson-Odoi, a move to Borussia Dortmund would be a favorable step as he’s certainly more likely to receive minutes in Germany than he would staying at Chelsea, especially considering the club already has a plethora of attackers. In addition, they have just signed Raheem Sterling. In Dortmund, Hudson-Odoi would remain at a very competitive level and receive the minutes he needs to flourish.
On the flip side, one must consider what Borussia Dortmund would be getting out of any potential move. Hudson-Odoi is no doubt a talented footballer with potential to play an important role, given the minutes he needs to flourish. That being said, he does come with a lengthy injury history that would be a worrisome factor to consider if BVB were to purchase the player outright. A loan deal, even with a potential option to buy should the player perform well could prove to be a shrewd piece of business for the club to pursue.
