Edin Terzic: Jude Bellingham ready to take on more responsibility at Borussia Dortmund

Edin Terzic is confident that Jude Bellingham can handle the added responsibility of being Borussia Dortmund’s third captain this season.

Jude Bellingham was appointed Borussia Dortmund’s third captain earlier this month, with Edin Terzic handing him extra responsibility as a reward for his incredible development over the last two seasons. And the BVB head coach is confident that the England international has all the attributes needed to take on a leading role in the team.

Bellingham delivered a strong performance in midfield on Saturday evening as Borussia Dortmund began their Bundesliga campaign with a 1-0 win over Bayer Leverkusen.

The 19 year old also played a big role in the build-up to the winning goal. He showed great intensity to rob Jonathan Tah of possession in Leverkusen’s final third before Youssoufa Moukoko played in a smart low cross, which was eventually turned home by Marco Reus.

During his post-match press conference, Terzic said that Bellingham is a player with limitless potential. He also hailed the midfielder as one of the team’s most consistent players.

"“Jude came to us as a teenager and is now slowly becoming a young adult. Over the course of the last two years, he has developed really well both physically and in terms of his character.”“He wants to have this type of responsibility, he can handle it, so we were happy to give it him. He’s been one of our most consistent players over the last couple of years. I said a year and a half ago and I still stand by it, ‘We don’t know how good he is yet.’ We’re trying to find out what his ceiling will be.”"

Saturday’s appearance was Bellingham’s 92nd in a Borussia Dortmund shirt. The highly rated midfielder has enjoyed a meteoric rise since joining the Black and Yellows from Birmingham City in 2019. And he continues to get better and better with every passing game.

Jude Bellingham is one of the first names on the Borussia Dortmund team-sheet. And he will have a crucial role to play this season as BVB look to battle it out for the Bundesliga title.
