Borussia Dortmund player ratings from stunning comeback win over SC Freiburg
By Tushar Bahl
Thorgan Hazard (4/10)
Hazard had a tough time on the right wing and failed to make any impact going forward. He was often bullied by Christian Günter, and his replacement Jamie Bynoe-Gittens changed the game after coming on.
Donyell Malen (5/10)
Malen wasn’t able to build on the encouraging performances he delivered in the first two games. He showed some good movement, but lacked the cutting edge to cause any problems to the Freiburg defenders.
Anthony Modeste (5/10)
Modeste did not look to be on the same wavelength as the rest of his teammates, but that is to be expected after only three full days of training. He had a couple of decent chances but didn’t really test the goalkeeper.
Marius Wolf (7/10)
Wolf came on at half time and made a much bigger impact than Meunier. He had a number of encouraging moments going forward and also looked solid defensively for the most part. He then scored BVB’s third goal and sealed the win with an emphatic finish.
Jamie Bynoe-Gittens (8/10)
Bynoe-Gittens came off the bench and changed the game for Borussia Dortmund. There was a stroke of good fortune about his equaliser. But he also helped set up the go-ahead goal and caused Freiburg all sorts of problems.
Youssoufa Moukoko (7/10)
Moukoko came up clutch for Borussia Dortmund and completed the comeback with a well taken finish under pressure. He also set up the equalising goal with a nice one-two with Jamie Bynoe-Gittens.
Julian Brandt (7/10)
Brandt was only on the pitch for 15 minutes, but his impact on the game was telling. He added a creative spark to Borussia Dortmund’s midfield and did really well to set up the winning goal for Youssoufa Moukoko.
