Donyell Malen and Mahmoud Dahoud add to Borussia Dortmund’s injury woes
Borussia Dortmund’s Mahmoud Dahoud and Donyell Malen appear to have joined the club’s injury list three games into the season.
Borussia Dortmund’s injury list has grown again as midfielder Mahmoud Dahoud and attacker Donyell Malen have picked up knocks that may see them sidelined for an, as of yet, unknown amount of time.
Dahoud was taken off in the first half with what looked to be a dislocated shoulder. The German midfielder had a lively start against Werder Bremen, registering one of BVB’s only attempts on goal in the first half.
Malen, on the other hand, missed out on the team sheet entirely, with Patrick Owomoyela mentioning during the game that the Dutch international showed signs of muscular issues prior to the game.
The former PSV Eindhoven player has had a relatively strong start to the season, making the left side of the field his own, showing a level of confidence and ability to take on players that was sorely missing last season.
Karim Adeyemi was another notable omission, with the club being cautious with the German international’s toe injury. Edin Terzic revealed before the game that he was still dealing with some pain.
Borussia Dortmund’s injuries have done less to hamper the team’s progress by providing additional options in key areas so far this season. Their attacking ranks have been bolstered with the emergence of Jamie Bynoe-Gittens as a genuine first team option, and Gio Reyna’s return to fitness, which clearly points to the fact that it wasn’t just Dortmund’s injury woes that hampered them last season, but also their lack of quality depth.
The quality of depth has improved significantly over the summer, and will hopefully go a long way towards ensuring that the team can continue to be productive over the course of the season.
