The UEFA Champions League group stage draw is upon us, and all eyes will be on Istanbul on Thursday as teams discover their upcoming opponents in Europe’s premier cup competition. Borussia Dortmund will be in pot three for the UCL group stage draw, and may well have to overcome some tough challenges in order to make it through to the knockout rounds.
Several of Europe’s biggest clubs will be in pots one and two for the UEFA Champions League group stage draw, and it will be interesting to see which teams Borussia Dortmund have to face in the coming months.
Pot one will include Bayern Munich and Eintracht Frankfurt from the Bundesliga, as well as Manchester City, Real Madrid, AC Milan, Paris Saint-Germain, FC Porto and AFC Ajax. Last season’s UEFA Champions League runners-up Liverpool, FC Barcelona, Chelsea, Juventus, Atletico Madrid, Sevilla, RB Leipzig and Tottenham Hotspur will all be in pot two.
In addition to Borussia Dortmund, Bayer Leverkusen, Shakhtar Donetsk, Inter Milan, Napoli, SL Benfica, RB Salzburg and Sporting CP will be in pot three. Olympique Marseille, Rangers, Club Brugge, Celtic, FC København, Dinamo Zagreb, Viktoria Plzeň and Maccabi Haifa are guaranteed to be in pot four.
Teams from the same nation cannot face each other in the UEFA Champions League group stage. Borussia Dortmund will be eager to reach the knockout rounds of the 2022/23 UEFA Champions League after failing to do so last season.
