Six reasons why Borussia Dortmund should consider switching to a back three

Tactical variation

Another reason for implementing a back three is quite simple—tactical variation. Applying various systems to your game plan gives you the element of unpredictability, allowing the head coach to find distinct solutions for different situations.

In Borussia Dortmund’s case, Edin Terzic needs to fix a problem more attached to the roster’s fragility than anything else.

The away game against Hertha Berlin was a good reaction defensively to the loss against Bremen. Let’s hope that this is a sign of things to come and that the idea of fielding a back three becomes a serious option going forward, especially with games set to come thick and fast in the UEFA Champions League and Bundesliga.
