Former Borussia Dortmund duo set for Bundesliga returns
Former Borussia Dortmund duo Abdou Diallo and Julian Weigl are set to return to the Bundesliga on transfer deadline day.
The summer transfer window will slam shut on Thursday, and two former Borussia Dortmund players appear to be on the move. Abdou Diallo is closing in on a loan move to RB Leipzig, while Julian Weigl is about to join Borussia Mönchengladbach.
According to reports, Abdou Diallo will join RB Leipzig on transfer deadline day on an initial loan deal with an option to buy for 25 million euros. The defender spent one season at Borussia Dortmund and made 38 appearances for the club after making the switch from Mainz 05. But following Mats Hummels’ return to Dortmund in 2019, Diallo decided to move to Paris St. Germain.
He is now set to make his return to the Bundesliga after falling out of favour at PSG. The 26 year old could go up against his former club next weekend, when RB Leipzig host the Black and Yellows in the Bundesliga.
Meanwhile, reports in Portugal claim that Borussia Mönchengladbach have reached an agreement with SL Benfica for the signature of Julian Weigl. The Foals are set to complete the signing of the former Borussia Dortmund defensive midfielder on an initial loan deal. And they will have the option to make the move permanent for 15 million euros.
English Premier League side Arsenal were also said to be interested in signing Weigl, who made 171 appearances for Borussia Dortmund before joining SL Benfica in January 2020. The 26 year old has fallen down the pecking order at Benfica, and will now join Gladbach on transfer deadline day.
