Following the close of the summer transfer window, we take a look at Borussia Dortmund’s squad depth for the 2022/2023 season. Several players will be crucial to the success of the team, and there are some who could share time with the first team and the U-23s. There are also a few “sleeper” players who we think will end up being essential parts of the BVB team. 

Half of winning a football game is preventing the other side from scoring goals. As Borussia Dortmund have found out the hard way in season past, having great goal-scorers will only take you so far if you do not have the right defenders and goalkeepers to keep the opponent from scoring more than you.

This first installment of the series analyzing Borussia Dortmund’s 2022/2023 squad depth is devoted to those very players called upon to defend the team’s goal. We will take a look at the team’s depth at full-back, center-back, and goalkeeper. The club put a lot of necessary work and funds into shoring up this part of the team, and this season has the potential to be very special as a result.

We have also included a snippet on each player and how we think they might contribute this season. At the end, we have given our opinion on who we think are the biggest sleeper candidates as well as the potential big performers for the team in defense. Here we go!
