Sleepers and Potential Big Performers

This position group was probably the most difficult in terms of determining who we think could have the biggest impact on the squad. The Borussia Dortmund bosses did a fantastic job this summer of addressing some key needs in the squad as well as adding some much-needed depth.  Although one might say that adding a full-back or two would have made this summer even better.

For the for potential big performer, I’m going to be a little predictable and choose Nico Schlotterbeck. If you couldn’t already tell, I’m absolutely salivating over this signing. Schlotterbeck has come right into the squad and has established himself as a crucial player from the start. He is not afraid to put in tough challenges and get physical with opponents, but he has also shown his skill when it comes to ball possession and playing passes from the back. He has the potential to turn out to be one of the best signings from Borussia Dortmund’s summer transfer window.

This position group’s “sleeper” candidate could actually go to a couple of different players, but there is one in particular that I personally love and really feel will have a big impact on the team: Marius Wolf.  The wide man’s greatest contribution to the club and the reason I’m betting on him this season will be his versatility.

Wolf might not be a player that will crack the starting XI for every game, but he is sure to do the job when called upon. His ability and willingness to play anywhere will come down to being a much-needed asset. Every team needs a Swiss army knife, and Dortmund have found theirs in Marius Wolf.

Next. Why Borussia Dortmund should consider switching to a back three. dark

Going into this season, we can’t help but feel incredibly optimistic about this coming season. Borussia Dortmund have really put together a good squad, both a mixture of experience and youth, that should result in an entertaining campaign. And who knows, maybe this squad will finally be the one that dethrones the Bavarians. Regardless, we’re looking forward to this season and can’t wait to see what this team can accomplish!
