Andre Kramaric humbles Borussia Dortmund (BVB 0-4 TSG / 2019-20 Season)

Let’s bring back the calendar to June 2020 for our first entry. The last few matchdays of the atypical and COVID-ridden 2019-20 Bundesliga season were in play. There was little to nothing for BVB to achieve since the Meisterschale went to Bayern that year. All that was left for Borussia Dortmund was one last Bundesliga encounter at home against Hoffenheim.

It was clear from the get go that Dortmund knew and felt the season was over. With no fans in the stadium to push the team due to the COVID restrictions that were in place, the players seemed too relaxed for this encounter. This element wasn’t present on the opposition players who found the back of the net within eight minutes of play. Andre Kramaric, the man who bagged the first goal, went on to score a further three to seal Borussia Dortmund’s worst defeat of the season.

Lucien Favre made the unforgivable mistake of considering the season as ‘done and dusted’ with one game still left to play. Before the match, the Black and Yellows had already secured the second spot in the Bundesliga standings. With this in mind, Favre lined up an alternative squad that saw the likes of Achraf Hakimi and Jadon Sancho on the bench, while newcomer Leonardo Balerdi got a shot in the starting eleven. These elements combined with the fact that Hoffenheim were hunting for a spot in next season’s Europa League stages made up the perfect recipe for Dortmund’s doom.

Andre Kramaric orchestrated an embarrasment that should have never occured. His no-look penalty goal which tallied Hoffenheim’s fourth goal of the game was the final blow for an overconfident Borussia Dortmund side.
