Borussia Dortmund face arguably their toughest test in the UEFA Champions League group stage on Wednesday as they take on Erling Haaland and Manchester City.

Still reeling from Saturday’s 3-0 defeat against RB Leipzig, Borussia Dortmund will return to UEFA Champions League action on Wednesday. And a tough game awaits the Black and Yellows as they go up against English Premier League champions Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.

It has been a rough start to the season for Borussia Dortmund, who have been plagued by a raft of injuries. And the situation looks bleak going into Wednesday’s game as well, with Gregor Kobel, Jamie Bynoe-Gittens, Mahmoud Dahoud, Sebastien Haller and Mateu Morey all set to miss out due to injuries. Karim Adeyemi, Donyell Malen and Thorgan Hazard have made the trip to Manchester, but it remains to be seen if they will be able to play from the start.

Edin Terzic may well be tempted to go with a back three to cope with Manchester City’s attacking threat. Pep Guardiola’s side have made a strong start to the season, with Erling Haaland scoring 12 goals in just eight appearances. He will be out to haunt his former club on Wednesday.

Ilkay Gündogan, Manuel Akanji and Sergio Gomez are also expected to be in the Manchester City squad. Kyle Walker and Aymeric Laporte are set to miss the game due to their respective injuries.

Borussia Dortmund and Manchester City last met in the quarterfinals of the 2020/21 UEFA Champions League. The Premier League side claimed a 4-2 aggregate win, although Dortmund were unlucky with some of the refereeing decisions over the course of the two legs. With Erling Haaland now playing for Manchester City, they are certainly the heavy favourites to win on Wednesday.
