Defenders: Mats Hummels, Niklas Süle, Nico Schlotterbeck

Saturday’s defensive blunders against RB Leipzig will still be fresh in the team’s memory. And with Manchester City boasting a world-class frontline led by Erling Haaland, it may not be a bad idea to switch to a back three.

Niklas Süle and Nico Schlotterbeck started at the weekend, and adding Mats Hummels to the back-line would give the team more stability. The veteran centre-back has made a fairly solid start to the season, and his experience could be crucial against Pep Guardiola’s side.

Süle showed glimpses of his quality in the defeat to RB Leipzig, and he will be aiming to build on that in the coming weeks.

Schlotterbeck did not have the best of times against Leipzig, but his pace and tenacity will be vital to Borussia Dortmund’s hopes of stopping Haaland on Wednesday.
