Julian Brandt (5/10)

Brandt’s game was a bit of a mixed bag. He delivered some excellent crosses and passes, but also a number of wayward ones. The playmaker also worked hard defensively, but his impact going forward was rather limited.

Donyell Malen (7.5/10)

Malen was Borussia Dortmund’s best player in the first half and caused all sorts of problems to the Schalke defenders. He came close to scoring on a couple of occasions and was unlucky not to find the back of the net. He started to tire in the second half before being substituted.

Anthony Modeste (4/10)

Modeste had a good opportunity to score late in the first half, but failed to keep his header on target. He often appeared to be the odd man out in the BVB attack, and struggled to get on the same wavelength as his teammates. He was subbed off in the second half and Dortmund looked much more dangerous going forward after his departure.

Gio Reyna (6.5/10)

Reyna came on to replace Marco Reus and linked up really well with his teammates at times. He also helped set up the winning goal with a cross field pass into Marius Wolf’s path. The USMNT international then came close to scoring, but his curling effort went just wide of the post.

Karim Adeyemi (6/10)

Adeyemi had some encouraging moments after coming on. But his most important contribution came when he committed an intelligent professional foul to nip a Schalke counter-attack in the bud.

Youssoufa Moukoko (8/10)

Youssoufa Moukoko came on to replace Anthony Modeste and looked very lively from the get go. He showed great energy and made some excellent runs into the box. And then he came up clutch in the 79th minute with a well taken header to secure the win for his side.
