Marco Reus had to be stretchered off the pitch after suffering an ankle injury in the first half of Borussia Dortmund’s game against Schalke 04 on Saturday.

Borussia Dortmund suffered another injury blow on Saturday afternoon as Marco Reus suffered a serious looking ankle injury during the Bundesliga clash against Schalke 04. The BVB captain appeared to have twisted his ankle during a duel with Schalke’s Florian Flick mid-way through the first half. He immediately grabbed his ankle in pain and received treatment on the pitch for several minutes, before being carried off on a stretcher to applause from the Signal Iduna Park.

Marco Reus has made an excellent start to the season for Borussia Dortmund, scoring three goals and assisting a further four in nine appearances across all competitions. At the moment, it remains to be seen just how serious his injury is. But with the FIFA World Cup just two months away, the hope will be that Reus’ injury is not a serious one.

The 33 year old has been forced to deal with several serious injuries over the course of his career, and has had to miss a number of international tournaments as a result.
