Former Borussia Dortmund defender Dan-Axel Zagadou set for Stuttgart move
Former Borussia Dortmund defender Dan-Axel Zagadou is set to join Bundesliga side VfB Stuttgart on a free transfer.
Dan-Axel Zagadou has found his next club, and the defender will join VfB Stuttgart on a free transfer. The 23 year old was a free agent after leaving Borussia Dortmund when his contract expired at the end of last season.
Zagadou has been linked with a number of clubs in recent months, with the likes of AS Roma, Inter Milan, West Ham United, TSG Hoffenheim and Olympique Lyonnais all showing an interest in signing him.
It appeared earlier that West Ham United were leading the race for his signature. But the Frenchman has now decided to stay in the Bundesliga, and will undergo his medical examination before signing his contract with VfB Stuttgart.
Zagadou spent five years at Borussia Dortmund after joining the club on a free transfer from Paris St. Germain in 2017. He made a total of 92 appearances for the Black and Yellows. But injuries often halted his progress and it was decided in May that his contract would not be extended.
VfB Stuttgart were looking to sign a new defender following their disappointing start to the new season. And in Zagadou, they have found a player with plenty of Bundesliga experience.
Dan-Axel Zagadou still has lots of potential, and he showed that whenever he played for Borussia Dortmund. If he manages to stay fit for an extended period of time, the centre-back can prove to be a very shrewd signing for Stuttgart.
