Marco Reus’ offensive contributions this season

This season for Borussia Dortmund has been a little more interesting in terms of goal-scoring than previous ones. Since January 2020 until this past summer, BVB had been able to rely on one of the world’s most prolific goal-scorers in Erling Haaland for the majority of their production. But with his move to Manchester City, everyone knew that there would be a massive void to fill up front.

Throughout the first ten matches, there have been exactly ten different goal-scorers. Marco Reus is co-leader on the team with three goals to his name, also leading the team with four assists. Of all the club’s goals scored this season, Reus has been directly involved in nearly half of them – a pretty incredible feat for any one player.

Reus has also made a name for himself in being the guy who often opens the scoring for Borussia Dortmund. He has scored the first goal in the match for BVB in 46 matches throughout his career. In more ways than one, Reus is a player known to help kickstart BVB’s attack.

The offense simply runs through BVB’s captain. He currently leads the team in passes that lead to shot attempts despite only being ninth on the team in completed passes. What this says is that Reus’ passes are often the ones that put players in a position to be able to take a shot on goal.
