Borussia Dortmund would have reportedly considered making a move for Cristiano Ronaldo had they not already signed Anthony Modeste on a one year contract.

After it was revealed that Sebastien Haller would be sidelined for the foreseeable future due to a malignant testicular tumour, Borussia Dortmund moved quickly to sign a short-term replacement. The BVB bosses decided to sign Anthony Modeste, with the Frenchman arriving on a one year contract.

Borussia Dortmund were also linked with a move for Cristiano Ronaldo, with reports claiming that the Portuguese international’s agent offered him to the Black and Yellows. But BVB decided against pursuing a move for the Manchester United forward.

Now SportBILD are claiming that Dortmund would have considered the prospect of signing Ronaldo more intensively had they not already signed Modeste from FC Köln. Ronaldo was desperate to leave Manchester United during the summer transfer window, but failed to secure a move away from the club in the end.

Modeste has endured a difficult start to his Borussia Dortmund career, scoring just one goal in nine appearances across all competitions. SportBILD add that a contract extension beyond the end of the season for the 34 year old is considered to be highly unlikely at the moment.

Despite his difficult start, Anthony Modeste retains the confidence of the BVB bosses. Both Edin Terzic and Sebastian Kehl have recently backed the striker to come good. And with Borussia Dortmund facing a number of crunch games in the coming weeks, it would be a massive boost for the team if Modeste can find his form.
