Borussia Dortmund head coach Edin Terzic has heaped praise on Mats Hummels, backing the defender to make the Germany squad for this year’s FIFA World Cup.

Mats Hummels has been one of Borussia Dortmund’s standout performers so far this season. The defender has rolled back the years, showing that he still has what it takes to play a crucial role for the Black and Yellows.

Hummels’ strong performances have led to growing calls to include him in Germany’s squad for this year’s FIFA World Cup. And Borussia Dortmund head coach Edin Terzic believes that the 33 year old has a great chance of making Germany’s squad for the World Cup if he continues his excellent run of form.

During his press conference ahead of Borussia Dortmund’s Bundesliga clash against FC Köln, Terzic said:

"“Mats is in really good form, just like all the other centre-backs in our team. The guys certainly don’t make it easy for me to select a lineup. I’m sure that if Mats continues to play like this, he’ll have a great chance of playing in the World Cup. We’re just happy that Mats is healthy, is in this kind of form and we can rely on him in this way.”"

Germany head coach Hansi Flick revealed during the recently concluded international break that the door is open for Hummels to make his return to the Germany squad for the FIFA World Cup. Hummels’ Borussia Dortmund teammates Nico Schlotterbeck and Niklas Süle are also vying to be selected in the Germany squad for the tournament in Qatar.

Mats Hummels last played for Germany at the European Championships in 2021. The 2014 FIFA World Cup winner struggled with fitness issues and form last season, and lost his spot in the Germany squad as a result. But he has come roaring back to form this season. And if he continues to perform as he has done in recent weeks, a call-up to the Germany squad could well follow in November.
