Borussia Dortmund make the trip to Spain to take on Sevilla in a crucial UEFA Champions League group stage clash on Wednesday.

The UEFA Champions League group stage reaches its halfway mark this week and Borussia Dortmund will take on Sevilla in what could well be a defining game for both teams in their hopes of making it to the knockout rounds. The two teams are set to face each other twice over the next week, starting with the matchday three clash in Andalusia on Wednesday.

Borussia Dortmund will be desperate to get something out of Wednesday’s game as they look to solidify their hold of second place in the group.

The Black and Yellows have lost three of their last four games across all competitions. And Edin Terzic will be hoping for a strong performance from his side against a struggling Sevilla team to gain some much needed momentum ahead of this weekend’s massive home game against Bayern Munich.

Sevilla haven’t made the best of starts to the season, and currently find themselves in 17th place in La Liga standings. In the Champions League, they have one point to their name from their opening two group stage games. But they still have a very strong squad, and Borussia Dortmund certainly cannot afford to take them lightly.

Borussia Dortmund are set to welcome Gregor Kobel back into the squad for the trip to Seville. And the return of Marco Reus does not appear to be too far away either, although the Sevilla game will come too soon for the BVB captain. Mats Hummels has also not made the trip to Seville. Gio Reyna, Sebastien Haller, Mahmoud Dahoud, Jamie Bynoe-Gittens, and Mateu Morey will also miss the game.

Sevilla will be without the injured duo Karim Rekik and Jesús Corona, while Óliver Torres is not part of their squad for the UEFA Champions League group stage. Former Borussia Dortmund midfielder Thomas Delaney is expected to start in midfield for Julen Lopetegui’s side.
