Report: Borussia Dortmund keeping tabs on Ajax’s Mohammed Kudus
Borussia Dortmund are reportedly keeping tabs on Ajax star Mohammed Kudus as a potential transfer target, per BILD.
According to German tabloid BILD, Borussia Dortmund are currently keeping a close eye on Mohammed Kudus and his situation at Dutch Eredivisie side Ajax. The 22 year old Ghana international is seen as an interesting player, and has also seemingly attracted attention from both Everton and Tottenham.
According to the report, the player’s current market value is set at 10 million euros, and his contract is set to run out in 2025, making him a possibly affordable option for the club to bring into the fold. The player initially joined the Dutch giants in 2020, and has been one of the Amsterdam based side’s most influential players this season.
Kudus usually plies his trade on the pitch as an attacking midfielder, but this season has seen him play up top as a number 9. Over the course of his career with Ajax, he has featured 54 times across all competitions, scoring 13 goals and providing five assists. This season alone, Kudus has eight goals and 2 assists to his name. He is also known for his ability to control the ball as well as his overall awareness of the game.
Borussia Dortmund’s potential interest in Kudus comes as no surprise in terms of his profile; a young talented player with a high ceiling in terms of potential. Considering the team has struggled for goals all season long, he would possibly be a boost in that regard.
Both positions that Kudus could likely occupy (be it striker or attacking midfield) are currently stocked with players however. In midfield, Kudus would join Gio Reyna, Marco Reus, and Julian Brandt. Up top, Dortmund have Youssoufa Moukoko and Anthony Modeste, along with Sebastien Haller who is still out due to illness.
Bringing Mohammed Kudus in would be something that Dortmund would have to consider quite carefully. Both timing and messaging would be important so that the wrong message isn’t sent to players like Youssoufa Moukoko, who is still struggling for minutes despite only having competition from a largely ineffective Anthony Modeste. Dortmund aren’t often a club that delves into the winter market, but depending on where they sit come the Hinrunde, they may be forced to bring in another attacker should the squad still be ailing for goals. This will also depend on how long Haller will also be out for. It is without a doubt a decision the club will have to weigh carefully as they navigate their current predicament this season.
