Borussia Dortmund face a killing sequence of matches in the coming weeks that could well end up making or breaking their season.

You might think that this title is an exaggeration or overreaction, but here I will argue why I think these next four matches will play a key role in dictating Borussia Dortmund’s season. The games I am referring to are the Bundesliga der Klassiker this weekend, the Champions League group stage clash against Sevilla, the battle against the current league leaders Union Berlin, and finally, the DFB-Pokal second round encounter with Hannover 96.

It is definitely BVB’s most challenging sequence of games in the season so far, and we have not even reached the mid-season mark yet. There are several reasons why these next few weeks will be crucial to the team’s season. But mainly, I believe that BVB need to make a statement right now. A statement that would help the Black and Yellows lay down a marker in all three competitions.

Borussia Dortmund’s performances have been surprising to some extent considering Edin Terzic has only just come in and many new players have also arrived. Still, the inconsistency, the lack of defensive solidity, and the eternal injury reports are factors that snatch the optimism out of the fans. If BVB want to prove their title ambitions, now is the time for it.

The first step in that direction was taken when Borussia Dortmund beat Sevilla at their own domains 4-1. Edin Terzic’s side took advantage of their opponents’ precarious situation and put them to the sword.

Now, the question remains: can Borussia Dortmund make a statement against tougher and more stabilized teams in the coming weeks?
