Home vs Sevilla – (UEFA Champions League, October 11)

Beating the Spaniards away from home was a huge result, but Borussia Dortmund need follow that up with another win next week in order to secure their place in the last 16. As I mentioned in my Group G breakdown article, the Black and Yellows will need to overcome the challenge of Sevilla to make it through to the round of 16. Considering Manchester City’s perfect start, I believe I wasn’t far off, but I wasn’t expecting Sevilla’s downfall so early in the season.

Even a draw in Spain would have been a good result, but the win has put Borussia Dortmund in an excellent position. Led by brilliant performances from Jude Bellingham and Alexander Meyer, BVB used Sevilla’s internal crisis in their favor and made the most of the pressure their errors.

But with a new coach at the helm, Sevilla could offer a much tougher test to Borussia Dortmund next week. The Andalusian side still created many chances on Wednesday and exposed a problematic defensive system. And BVB will certainly have to be wary of a response from them at the Signal Iduna Park next week, just three days after their clash against Bayern Munich.

Sevilla will no doubt look to issue a response and salvage their Champions League campaign, so Dortmund will have to prepare for a hard fought contest. With Jorge Sampaoli replacing Julen Lopetegui in the dugout, Borussia Dortmund fans should expect a more high-octane style of play from their opponents. As they have nothing to lose at this point, Borussia Dortmund will have to be at their best in order to get the three points.
