Bundesliga Roundup: Borussia Dortmund rescue draw against Bayern; Union Berlin stay top

Borussia Dortmund came from two goals behind to rescue a 2-2 draw against Bayern Munich, while Union Berlin extended their lead at the top of the Bundesliga standings on matchday nine of the Bundesliga season.

Anthony Modeste scored a 95th minute equaliser as Borussia Dortmund pulled off a stunning comeback against Bayern Munich on Saturday. Goals from Leon Goretzka and Leroy Sané had given the Bavarians a two goal lead, but Youssoufa Moukoko halved the deficit before Modeste headed home in the 95th minute to salvage a 2-2 draw for his side.

Union Berlin extended their lead at the top of the Bundesliga standings to two points as they claimed a 1-0 win away to VfB Stuttgart. Paul Jaeckel scored the only goal of the game as the Berliners continued their dream start to the season.

Borussia Mönchengladbach secured the bragging rights in the Rhine derby by cruising to a 5-2 win over FC Köln. Ramy Bensebaini scored a brace for Gladbach, and Marvin Friedrich, Lars Stindl and Marcus Thuram were also on target. Florian Kainz and Denis Huseinbasic scored for the Billy Goats, but it was the Foals who came out on top in the end.

Xabi Alonso made a dream start to life as Bayer Leverkusen head coach as he guided his side to a 4-0 win over Schalke 04. Moussa Diaby gave Leverkusen the lead, before Jeremie Frimpong scored a brace to make sure of the win. Paulinho then came off the bench and sealed a resounding win for Leverkusen, who finally moved out of the relegation zone.

Second placed SC Freiburg fought back to earn a 2-2 draw away to Hertha Berlin. Despite taking the lead in the first half through Daniel-Kofi Kyereh, Christian Streich’s side were pegged back thanks to goals from Dodi Lukebakio and Suat Serdar. But Kevin Schade found the back of the net 12 minutes from time to keep Freiburg’s unbeaten run intact.

Werder Bremen continued their incredible start to the season by claiming a 2-1 win away to TSG Hoffenheim. In-form duo Marvin Ducksch and Niclas Füllkrug were both on target for the newly promoted side, while Munas Dabbur scored what proved to be a consolation goal for Hoffenheim.

RB Leipzig needed an 80th minute equaliser from Christopher Nkunku to rescue a point away to Mainz 05. Bo Svensson’s side took the lead in the first half through Marcus Ingvartsen, before Nkunku’s header helped Leipzig earn a share of the spoils.

VfL Bochum finally got their first win of the season in the Bundesliga as they beat Eintracht Frankfurt 3-0. Goals from Philipp Hofmann, Philipp Förster, and an own goal from Evan Ndicka helped Bochum seal a priceless win. FC Augsburg and VfL Wolfsburg played out a 1-1 draw, with Robert Gumny canceling out Yannick Gerhardt’s opener.
