It was a mixed weekend for Bundesliga clubs involved in Europe as SC Freiburg qualified for the UEFA Europa League knockout rounds, but Borussia Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen stumbled at home.

Borussia Dortmund were left frustrated as they could only manage 1-1 draw at home to Sevilla. Tanguy Nianzou opened the scoring for the Spanish side, before Jude Bellingham scored his fourth Champions League goal of the season to make it 1-1. Neither team was able to find a winner, as the Black and Yellows failed to guarantee qualification to the last 16.

Bayern Munich secured their place in the last 16 of the UEFA Champions League by cruising to a 4-2 win away to Viktoria Plzeň. Sadio Mane, Thomas Müller and Leon Goretzka (x2) were on target  for the Bavarians, before Adam Vlkanova and Jan Kliment helped the Czech side halve the deficit in the second half.

RB Leipzig boosted their hopes of reaching the round of 16 by earning a 2-0 win away to Celtic. Goals from Timo Werner and Emil Forsberg helped Marco Rose’s side move up to second place in their group.

A spirited performance from Eintracht Frankfurt wasn’t enough, as they fell to a 3-2 defeat against Tottenham Hotspur. The Eagles took the lead early on through Daichi Kamada, but quick-fire goals from Son Heung-min and Harry Kane helped Tottenham turn the game on its head. Faride Alidou pulled a goal back late on for last season’s Europa League winners. But it wasn’t to be for them in the end.
