Borussia Dortmund player ratings from 2-0 defeat to Union Berlin
By Tushar Bahl
Thomas Meunier (3/10)
Meunier sent in an excellent early cross for Can but that was as good as it got for the Belgian international. He looked clumsy going forward and lost the ball too cheaply on a number of occasions. He was then taken off at half time, with Niklas Süle preferred at right-back for the second half.
Emre Can (4/10)
Emre Can had a golden chance to score early in the game but failed to keep his header on target. He was caught chasing bodies for the most part and wasn’t able to make any impact on either end of the pitch.
Salih Özcan (3/10)
Özcan was caught out of position in the build up to Union Berlin’s second goal. He should have been a lot closer to Haberer, but was caught ball watching and failed to track the Union Berlin midfielder’s run. He wasn’t able to cope with the physicality of Union Berlin’s midfield and was subbed off at half time.
Jude Bellingham (4/10)
Bellingham looked fatigued and wasn’t able to make any impact on the game despite trying his very best. The fact that Edin Terzic changed the team’s formation to a 3-5-2 with him as the sole creator on the pitch did not help his cause.
Raphael Guerreiro (4/10)
Guerreiro had a tough time against Christopher Trimmel on both ends of the pitch. He was marshalled really well and wasn’t able to drive forward down the left flank. And Union Berlin’s resilient defending prevented him from linking up with his teammates in the way he would have liked.
