Niklas Süle: Borussia Dortmund need to find solutions quickly to arrest alarming slump
By Tushar Bahl
Niklas Süle has said that the alarm bells are ringing for Borussia Dortmund, and they must find solutions quickly following their 2-0 defeat to Union Berlin.
Borussia Dortmund were handed another stark reality check on Sunday evening as they suffered a 2-0 defeat in their six-pointer against Union Berlin. The Black and Yellows were second best from the first whistle to the last, and they suffered a well deserved defeat in the end with Janik Haberer’s first half brace proving to be decisive.
The defeat saw Borussia Dortmund slip to eighth place in the Bundesliga standings, and their supposed title charge appears to be in real danger of going down in flames once again. Niklas Süle was left frustrated with the way BVB folded against Union Berlin, and said that they are making things too difficult for themselves.
Speaking after the 2-0 defeat, the Borussia Dortmund defender said that they must conduct a thorough analysis of the game.
"“It’s always very difficult against Union. But we were very weak with the ball. We have to be able to create more opportunities with the quality that we have,” Süle said.“We’ve now let some big points slip, the alarm bells must be ringing for us. We can’t keep going like this. We have excellent footballers, but we make things too difficult for ourselves. We have to analyze this rigorously. Week after week, we are praised for our potential. But then we also have to play with more conviction.”"
Sunday’s defeat means that Borussia Dortmund have now won just one of their last five games in the Bundesliga. Edin Terzic’s side have suffered three defeats in the process, and they already find themselves seven points behind league leaders Union Berlin in the Bundesliga standings.
Borussia Dortmund will have to lift themselves back up quickly, with another potentially tricky game awaiting them on Wednesday. BVB are set to go up against Hannover 96 in the second round of the DFB-Pokal, and anything other than a win against the 2. Bundesliga side would spell disaster for the club.
