Jude Bellingham scored a brace as Borussia Dortmund cruised to an emphatic 5-0 win over VfB Stuttgart at the Signal Iduna Park.
Having gone three games without a win in the Bundesliga, Borussia Dortmund desperately needed a response in their game against Stuttgart on Saturday. And they showed exactly that by dismantling Stuttgart en route to a 5-0 win. Jude Bellingham put in another excellent performance, as he led the way by scoring a stunning brace. Niklas Sule, Gio Reyna and Youssoufa Moukoko were also on target for the Black and Yellows.
Edin Terzic made a number of changes to the team that beat Hannover 96 on Wednesday, with Gio Reyna coming in for his first start in more than a month. Niklas Süle started at right-back, with Youssoufa Moukoko leading the attack.
Borussia Dortmund have struggled for goals all season long. But it did not take them long to get going against Stuttgart.
Jude Bellingham continued his stunning run of form by making it 1-0 inside 90 seconds. The England international got on the end of Niklas Süle’s low cross and turned it into the back of the net for his seventh goal of the season.
Süle then turned from provider to goalscorer in the 13th minute as he slotted Raphael Guerreiro’s free-kick into the back of the net.
Borussia Dortmund continued to dominate proceedings for much of the first half, with Gio Reyna running the show. The USMNT international then put the icing on the cake for his side by making it 3-0 in the 44th minute. It was a special moment for Reyna, who found the bottom corner from the left side to end his 421 day wait for a goal.
Jude Bellingham then scored the goal of the afternoon eight minutes into the second half, beating the Stuttgart goalkeeper with a sublime curling effort from the edge of the box. Youssoufa Moukoko then added a fifth late on, tapping the ball into the net after more good link-up play between Bellingham and Raphael Guerreiro.
It was without a doubt Borussia Dortmund’s best performance of the season so far. And it came at the perfect time, with the team desperately in need of a statement win. Things don’t get any easier for Edin Terzic’s side, with a home game against Manchester City up next. But if they play like this on Tuesday, they could well have a chance of upsetting the odds and defeating Erling Haaland and co.
