Borussia Dortmund U-19s remain in contention to qualify for the knockout rounds of the UEFA Youth League after coming from two goals down to claim a 3-3 draw against Manchester City on Tuesday.
Goals from Paris Brunner and Göktan Gürpüz (x2) helped the young Black and Yellows earn a share of the spoils, and they now face a must-win game in Copenhagen next week.
BVB U-19s and Manchester City played out a lively and exhilarating contest at the Youth Performance Centre in Dortmund. Mike Tullberg’s side took the lead in the second minute, with highly rated striker Paris Brunner making it 1-0 in the opening minute. The 16 year old, who has been making plenty of waves this season, got on the end of Lion Semic’s cross and found the bottom corner with a well placed header.
Manchester City responded really well to going behind and equalised mid-way through the first half through Will Dickson. Nico O’Reilly then gave the away side the lead, before Adedire Mebude made it 3-1 on the stroke of half time.
Facing elimination from the UEFA Youth League, the Borussia Dortmund U-19s came out of the blocks quickly after the break. And Göktan Gürpüz halved the deficit in the 47th minute. The talented midfielder found the top corner from the edge of the box after dribbling his way past a number of Manchester City defenders.
Gürpüz then showed his quality once again in the 62nd minute as he equalised for Borussia Dortmund with a stunning curling effort from the edge of the box.
Neither team was able to find a winner, and the game ended 3-3. Borussia Dortmund U-19s remain third in Group G, two points behind second placed FC Copenhagen. The two teams are set to face off in Denmark next week, and BVB need a win to qualify for the play-offs.
