The Black and Yellows can now look forward to the knockout stages of Europe’s premier club competition. The UEFA Champions League round of 16 draw will take place in Nyon, Switzerland and is scheduled to get underway at 12:00 CET.
Edin Terzic’s side are three points behind Manchester City, who lead Group G. And they are sure to finish as group runners-up due to their inferior head-to-head record against the English Premier League side.
This means that Borussia Dortmund will face one of the other group winners in the round of 16 of the UEFA Champions League.
There is still one more matchday left in the Champions League group stage, but 12 teams have already booked their place in the round of 16.
The teams that currently occupy top spot in their respective groups are Napoli, Club Brugge, Bayern Munich*, Tottenham Hotspur^, Chelsea*, Real Madrid, Manchester City*, and Paris St. Germain.
(* already confirmed as group winners, ^ yet to qualify for the round of 16).
The final standings will become clear after next week’s matchday six. Since teams from the same nation or group cannot face each other in the last 16, BVB cannot be drawn against Bayern Munich or Manchester City.
The UEFA Champions League round of 16 will get underway on February 14. The first legs of the last 16 ties will take place on 14/15/21/22 February, and the second legs are scheduled for 7/8/14/15 March.
