By Tushar Bahl
Union Berlin claimed a dramatic comeback win over Borussia Mönchengladbach, while Schalke 04 suffered yet another defeat on matchday 12 of the Bundesliga season.
Union Berlin’s miraculous start to the season continued on matchday 12 as a 97th minute winner from Danilho Doekhi helped them come from behind and beat Borussia Mönchengladbach 2-1.
The Bundesliga leaders fell behind in the first half thanks to Nico Elvedi’s headed goal. But Kevin Behrens equalised in the 79th minute before Doekhi scored a dramatic winner to secure the comeback win with the final kick of the game.
Second placed Bayern Munich cruised to a 6-2 win over Mainz 05. Serge Gnabry, Jamal Musiala, Sadio Mané, Leon Goretzka, Mathys Tel and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting were all on target for the defending champions, while Silvan Widmer and Marcus Ingvartsen scored consolation goals for the 05ers.
SC Freiburg comfortably dispatched Schalke 04 to stay third, with Vincenzo Grifo scoring twice for Christian Streich’s side. Schalke have now lost their last six games in the Bundesliga, and are sitting at the bottom of the standings.
Borussia Dortmund were not at their best but managed to secure a vital 2-1 win away to Eintracht Frankfurt. Julian Brandt gave the Black and Yellows the lead in the first half, before Daichi Kamada equalised for the home side. But Jude Bellingham scored the winning goal in the second half to help Edin Terzic’s side move up to fourth place in the table.
RB Leipzig continued their resurgence under Marco Rose, as they beat the struggling Bayer Leverkusen 2-0. Christopher Nkunku and Timo Werner were both on target for last season’s DFB-Pokal winners.
FC Köln managed to claim a 1-1 draw against TSG Hoffenheim despite playing their second game in just three days. The Billy Goats took the lead through Florian Kainz before former Borussia Dortmund winger Jacob Bruun Larsen rescued a point for Hoffenheim.
VfB Stuttgart moved out of the relegation zone after beating FC Augsburg 2-1 thanks to a 92nd minute winner from Waldemar Anton. Florian Niederlechner had earlier given Augsburg the lead, only for Serhou Guirassy and Anton to score and seal an impressive comeback win.
Werder Bremen left it late once again, as Niclas Füllkrug scored an 85th minute winner to help them beat Hertha Berlin 1-0. While VfL Wolfsburg ran riot against VfL Bochum, with Felix Nmecha (x2), Ridle Baku and Jonas Wind scoring to secure a comfortable 4-0 win.
