Youssoufa Moukoko

Despite being only 17, Youssoufa Moukoko has been showing his quality in the first-team on a consistent basis this season. Following his two goals against VfL Bochum last weekend, Moukoko is building a strong case for a World Cup call-up. Still, due to his lack of first-team experience, his presence at the tournament is not certain.

Moukoko has yet to make his senior debut for Germany. However, Timo Werner’s recent injury has opened up an unexpected spot in the attack, and the young BVB striker is certainly making a strong case for selection.

Marco Reus

The Borussia Dortmund captain and club legend will have a spot in Germany’s World Cup squad as long as he manages to prove his fitness in time. His injury preceding the 2014 World Cup in Brazil was a very unfortunate one, as it made him miss the chance to lift the trophy that year. His most recent injury break during the Revierderby brought back bad memories and almost took him out of the squad.

The hope will be that Reus can manage to return to full fitness in time for the World Cup. And as long as he is 100% fit, the 33 year old will be in Qatar to lead this young Germany squad.

Julian Brandt

Julian Brandt appears likely to be named in Germany’s World Cup list. The creative midfielder has had his ups and downs in Dortmund. However, he has been finding his feet this season and has established himself as an important player for Borussia Dortmund. Brandt has been delivering more consistent performances and has four goals and three assists to his name in all competitions this season.

At the national team level, Brandt has also cemented his place in the Germany squad and so a World Cup call-up appears likely. Although he will probably have to make do with a bench role, as he is behind the likes of Leroy Sané, Jamal Musiala and Marco Reus in the pecking order.
