Borussia Dortmund player ratings from 2-0 defeat vs Wolfsburg
Niklas Süle (6/10)
Wolfsburg’s first goal of the game originated from a corner in which Niklas Süle was caught off guard. A tight cross arched its way towards Kobel’s far post and found Micky van de Ven all alone and ready to head the cross home. However, Süle’s performance improved as the game progressed.
His contributions on the right flank didn’t go unnoticed, especially on the offensive side of the game. Good foot work and quick thinking granted him a couple of passing and shooting opportunities he took but to no avail. And he also hit the woodwork on the stroke of half time.
Mats Hummels (5/10)
It wasn’t a great nor a terrible night for Mats Hummels. Such is the case for most of the players in the starting eleven. A classy intervention to deny Wimmer a goal and a booking in the dying moments of the game were his most important contributions to the game. There were occasions when he was beaten for pace, and also wasted a few possessions. But he didn’t necessarily do much wrong defensively.
Nico Schlotterbeck (6/10)
Just like his defensive partner, Nico Schlotterbeck failed to make a proper game today. Regardless, his performance can’t be labeled as bad considering there was little to nothing he could have done to prevent Wolfsburg’s two goals from coming into existence.
Raphael Guerreiro (6/10)
Arguably the team’s most active defender going forward, Guerreiro created a number of chances from the left side of the pitch. The lack of a proper partner who can compliment his playing style on the wing like Jadon Sancho once did severely limits his playmaking abilities.
