Salih Özcan (6/10)

After conceding in the first ten minutes of the game, Borussia Dortmund’s main focus was on keeping the ball in the opposition’s territory. This move meant that the away side needed a player to secure their exposed backs in case of a counter-attack. Salih Özcan was the right man for the job. He proved to be so after successfully stopping a Wolfsburg counter that could have easily resulted in the second goal.

Jude Bellingham (5/10)

Perhaps the game’s biggest surprise was Jude Bellingham and his lacklustre performance. Even the world’s brightest young talent can have a bad day at the office and so was the case for Bellingham.

Easy misplaced passes and a rather dull performance meant Borussia Dortmund struggled greatly when attempting to find spaces behind Wolfsburg’s solid back-line. However, the young Englishman still managed to be the player with most challenges won after an hour of play.

Julian Brandt (4/10)

The Borussia Dortmund fanbase has all the right reasons to be extremely disappointed, or even worse, annoyed at Julian Brandt for the Wolfsburg game. Not only did he fail to create important goal chances but a slip in added time gave the ball away to Wolfsburg in a dangerous position. The hosts took advantage of this early Christmas present to seal the deal and make it 2-0. Yet another perfect example of Julian Brandt’s trademark inconsistency.
