Niklas Süle: Poor start to the game cost Borussia Dortmund against Wolfsburg

Niklas Süle has said that Borussia Dortmund’s slow start to their game against VfL Wolfsburg was inexplicable as they fell to a 2-0 defeat.
Borussia Dortmund suffered their fifth defeat of the season in the Bundesliga on Tuesday as they lost 2-0 away to VfL Wolfsburg. It was another below par performance from the Black and Yellows, who fell behind early on and had to chase the game for the majority of the 90 minutes as a result. And Niklas Süle has said that his side’s slow start played a big role in the defeat.
"“It felt like we didn’t even see the ball once in the first five to ten minutes,” Süle told Sky Sport. “We made another very poor start to the game, which is relatively inexplicable because that has been happening to us a lot this year.”"
Wolfsburg began the game with high intensity and took the lead after just six minutes, when Micky van de Ven scored from a corner. Borussia Dortmund had a few decent chances to score in the first half, but also looked shaky at the back whenever the home side tried to venture forward on the counter attack.
Despite dominating possession, Borussia Dortmund struggled to create too many clear-cut chances. And other than Niklas Süle, who was filling in at right-back, they looked rather uninspired in attack.
Süle felt that Borussia Dortmund created enough chances to get something out of the game. But their luck deserted them when it mattered most.
"“From the 15th minute onwards, we played a very, very good game, created many chances, but were unlucky. We actually started the second half well and almost equalised.”“I think that we didn’t really deserve to lose, we should have taken something out of the game, but unfortunately it wasn’t enough. We wanted to carry the self-belief from our last games with us, but we were too sleepy again and then had to chase a 1-0 deficit, which is very annoying.”"
The defeat to Wolfsburg leaves Borussia Dortmund six points behind league leaders Bayern Munich. Edin Terzic’s side still have one more game left to play before the winter break. And BVB will know that they can ill-afford to drop more points away to Borussia Mönchengladbach on Friday evening.
