Hans-Joachim Watzke is backing Edin Terzic to succeed at Borussia Dortmund, adding that he sees parallels between him and Jürgen Klopp.

It has been a fairly up and down season so far for Borussia Dortmund, with Edin Terzic enjoying a bumpy start to life as the first-team’s permanent head coach. Hans-Joachim Watzke has now backed the 40 year old, saying that he is doing a great job and will be at the club for a long time.

The Borussia Dortmund CEO made an appearance on BILD-TV on Sunday, where he said that he sees parallels between Edin Terzic and Jürgen Klopp.

"“We are 1000 percent convinced of Edin Terzic. He is highly regarded here at BVB. Edin is a guy who knows and loves the club, but he has a team that is still subject to too many fluctuations. He’s doing a great job, though, so I’m sure we’ll enjoy having him for a long time to come.”“Terzic is highly regarded at BVB as a whole. I hear from everyone involved how meticulously he works. We will continue to see great things from him.”“Jürgen Klopp was fully committed to the club for seven years. I see parallels there with Edin, who is also totally focused on the club.”"

Edin Terzic, who helped Borussia Dortmund win the DFB-Pokal title as interim head coach in 2021, was given the job on a permanent basis after the club decided to part ways with Marco Rose at the end of last season.

He has guided the team into the round of 16 of the UEFA Champions League and the DFB-Pokal. But the Black and Yellows have struggled to find consistency in the Bundesliga so far this season, and go into the winter break in sixth place in the standings (nine points behind league leaders Bayern Munich).

Borussia Dortmund ended the calendar year with back to back defeats in the Bundesliga to VfL Wolfsburg and Borussia Mönchengladbach. Watzke has admitted that the 4-2 loss to Gladbach on Friday really annoyed him. But despite those setbacks, he is fully convinced that Edin Terzic can lead the team to great success in the coming years.
