Sebastien Haller has revealed that he will need to undergo a second surgery to recover from his testicular tumour.

Sebastien Haller was diagnosed with a malignant testicular tumour in July and had to undergo a chemotherapy treatment. The Borussia Dortmund striker started training individually at his former club AFC Ajax’s training ground last month as he stepped up his road to recovery. But Haller will now need to undergo another operation to fight the tumour.

In a statement on social media, Haller said:

"“As planned from the beginning, different possibilities were considered after the chemo. I must announce that the fight is not over yet for me. I will have to undergo an operation to finally get rid of this tumour that is keeping me away from the field.”“I would like to thank you all for the messages of support and the strength you have given me in this ordeal. I look forward to seeing you all again.”"

Haller joined Borussia Dortmund from Dutch giants AFC Ajax for a club record transfer fee in the summer. But he felt unwell during the club’s pre-season training camp and was diagnosed with a testicular tumour. Further tests revealed that his tumour was malignant, and he would need to undergo a series of chemotherapy treatment.

The 28 year old said at the Ballon d’Or awards ceremony last month that he is feeling good and making good progress in his recovery. But he will now need to undergo another surgery, and it remains to be seen how long he will be sidelined for.

Hans-Joachim Watzke said last month that the Black and Yellows will give Sebastien Haller all the time he needs to recover from his illness. The hope will be that he can make a swift recovery and return to the pitch as soon as possible.
