Youssoufa Moukoko made his senior debut for the Germany national team on Wednesday evening, as he started for them in their pre-World Cup warm-up match against Oman. Aged 17 years and 361 days, the Borussia Dortmund striker made history as he became the youngest player to represent Germany since Uwe Seeler in 1954. Moukoko also became the fourth youngest player to play for Germany overall.
It was a special evening for Moukoko, who is also the youngest player to ever play and score in the Bundesliga. And he nearly marked the occasion with a goal in the first half stoppage time, only for the post to deny him.
Moukoko was replaced by Niclas Füllkrug at half-time, who also made his Germany debut. And the Werder Bremen striker went on to score the winner in the 80th minute.
Moukoko is enjoying an excellent season with Borussia Dortmund, and has six goals and four assists to his name in just 14 Bundesliga appearances so far.
His performances for the Black and Yellows helped him earn a call-up to the Germany squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup. And he will now be aiming to force his way into the Germany starting XI for their opening match against Japan on November 23.
Youssoufa Moukoko is one of five Borussia Dortmund players in the Germany squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup. The 2014 World Cup winners are set to face Japan, Spain and Costa Rica in the group stage.
