FC Barcelona could resurrect their interest in Borussia Dortmund right-back Thomas Meunier in the January transfer window.

Thomas Meunier has been heavily linked with FC Barcelona over the last 12 months, and it seems that they could look to target him once again in January. According to Mundo Deportivo, the Spanish giants are in talks with the Borussia Dortmund right-back ahead of a potential move for him in the winter transfer window.

FC Barcelona also made a late push to sign Meunier, both in January and in August. But their offers were knocked back by Borussia Dortmund on both occasions. It will be interesting to see if the Black and Yellows’ stance changes if Barcelona come up with an offer for the Belgian international next year.

Meunier began the season as Borussia Dortmund’s first-choice right-back. But he suffered a cheekbone fracture in October and was forced to miss the team’s final seven games of the calendar year. He appears to have recovered in time for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, where he could well have a key role to play for Belgium.

While Niklas Süle did a fairly decent job of filling in for Meunier in the final few weeks of the hinrunde, Borussia Dortmund are desperately short of options at right-back. So the BVB bosses are unlikely to let Meunier leave in the middle of the season unless they have a replacement in mind.

Thomas Meunier has made a total of 73 appearances for Borussia Dortmund since joining the club from Paris St. Germain in 2020.
